What are the 11+ tests?

In our location in Kent there are two different 11+ tests your child can sit to gain entry into a local Grammar School. Our classes prepare your child for both tests.

These tests are:

– The Medway 11+ test - for all Grammar Schools located in Medway

– The Kent 11+ test - for the rest of Kent e.g. Sittingbourne and Maidstone Grammar Schools

If you are on the boundary of the Medway Towns, you may want to consider registering for both the Medway and Kent tests. If you are unsure whether you fall into this category or not, please ask and we can advise you.

Below are the important dates for the 2026 tests for your diary. All of these were correct at the time of publication and may be subject to change.

Grammar School and the 11+

Grammar school selection tests are not compulsory. These are based on parental choice with advice and guidance from your child’s school. As the selection tests are not mandatory, it is not included as part of the school’s learning curriculum. Too often, many children enter the tests without sufficient preparation on exam technique and subject knowledge.

Our aim is to bridge this gap by recognising that many children have the potential to do well by supplementing their school learning in Maths and Literacy and by introducing Reasoning skills. We also build confidence by covering exam techniques, time management and memory skills.

Many of you will be aware of the controversy concerning the 11+ tests and some will have concerns that children who receive extra tuition will struggle at grammar school.

At Rainham Tuition, we believe that the additional learning and test technique skills we cover, enhance and support school learning to help a child reach their learning potential.

Our methods and ethos promote understanding and build confidence. These are skills that will support them as they adjust to secondary school education whether that is a grammar or non-grammar school.

Test Days – In school 15th/16th September 2026

Test Days – Out of County - 19th/20th September 2026
